Ruta 5: Chasms and Dolines
The highest summit in the province of Alicante will allow us to enjoy indescribable views.
This route runs through the Aitana mountain range, where the highest summit in the province of Alicante (1,557 m above sea level) is located. The landscape value is the main incentive of this stage, which includes beautiful and didactic examples of geomorphological elements closely related to hydrogeology.
With a distance of 32 km (without including access to the Partagat chasms from the collado de Aitana), this route can be considered in 2 days if the ascent to Partagat is made on foot. In both cases the final objective would be said chasms, either starting the journey on the south face from Sella, leaving the vehicle at the Font del Pouet Alemany, or from the north side parking in the Partagat Fountain.
Discretion of the route:
- Sella – Barranco de Tagarina (Font del Pouet Alemany): 10, 5 Km (in any type of vehicle or bicycle).
- Font del Pouet Alemany – Collado de Aitana: 4.2 km off-road or on foot (1.5 h on foot).
- Collado de Aitana – Simas de Partagat: 5.2 km (return trip) only on foot (2 h).
- Collado de Aitana – Font de Partagat: 2 km off-road or on foot (30 min on foot).
- Circular route through the Benimantell doline field: 7,5 km all terrain or on foot (2 h on foot).
- Font de Partagat at the end of the stage in Guadalest: 7,9 km (it can be done in any vehicle or bicycle).

Avencs de Partagat
The Avencs de Partagat are one of the most extraordinary places in the Aitana Mountain Range, a group of chasms of tectonic origin located at the top of the mountain range, just 700 m from the peak of Aitana, at altitudes near 1,400-1,500 meters, within the municipal area of Benifato.
It is a set of fractures that have separated immense blocks of limestone from the northern cliffs of Aitana in a very slow lateral or translational displacement.
To reach this point requires ascent to practically the top of the Sierra de Aitana, so a minimum of physical condition is required.
